Chalk grassland rich in flowers on a south-facing hillside at Aston Rowant, the scarp of the Chilterns (basically, an extension of the North Downs). In the distance is the plain of the Oxford Clay that underlies the chalk. Out of sight is the rest of the chalk scarp, which forms a line of hills to north and south, with several nature reserves and places good for wildlife.
